Object Framing

Object framing is very similar to shadow box framing, and in some cases will be the same depending on the depth of the objects being framed.  In the sample at the right, the depth was not so great that we had to use a shadow box moulding but instead were able to use a standard moulding and created a shadow box effect by floating the object on a matte and then raising the top matte to give the piece some depth.

In the sample above, the photograph was framed in a 19th century brass frame. We wanted to display the piece without risking damage to the photograph or the frame. We mounted the entire piece on the float matte, cut the top matte to match the contours of the brass frame, raised the top matte to give depth, and lined the inner section under the top matte with the same matte as the float matte.  The sample is framed using a traditional wood frame with conservation glass.
